WORKSHOP 1: Weekend – A Deeper Understanding
Fri, 17 - Sun, 19 April 2009
WORKSHOP 2: Five–Days Intensive
Mo, 20 – Fr, 24 April 2009
ABOUT PAUL
Paul is one of three senior dedicated students of Sri O.P.Tiwari, one of the few remaining classical yogis and master of pranayama. He has practiced pranayama for many years under Tiwariji’s direct guidance which has led to deep insight and understanding of practice. Paul is also certified by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois in ashtanga vinyasa, one of only a few in the world. He uses this as a base for intelligence in asana to be applied appropriately for the student. Paul continues with his regular routine of asana, pranayama and meditation on a daily basis and through love of the subject matter keeps up a keen study of the classical texts and scientific interpretations of what goes on in yoga.
Paul grew up in Dublin, Ireland, where humour and quick wits were a must for survival. After completing his degree at Trinity College he was bound for New York where his life in yoga began. Since 2001 he has been in Asia between Thailand and India with a primary focus on practice and study. With his wife, Jutima, they opened Yoga Thailand and continue to enjoy living there. Especially since the arrival of two lovely sons, Sean and Dylan.
His unique offering is to teach direct from the heart with both intelligence and humour. Please visit www.yoga-thailand.com and www.centeredyoga.com for more details.
WORKSHOP 1: Weekend – A Deeper Understanding
Fr, 17–Sun, 19 April 2009
To gain a greater understanding of the practice we are doing and the science behind it both through practical principles and the philosophy can lead to a deepening in one’s own practice. We may do these asanas, vinyasas and even pranayamas for years without them truly penetrating the surface. To address this and give value to practice two key areas will be focused upon during this workshop:
- Practice based upon integrity of posture respects natural functioning and encourages balance, which is the path of yoga.
- Theoretical explanation that causes reflection and insight aiding in one's own personal journey of yoga
Practice sessions will cover:
- key principles of asana practice
- incorporation of bandha, ujjayi and drishti with vinyasa
- ashtanga vinyasa in more detail
- pranayama basics
- discussion on philosophy and practice
The workshop is insightful and inspiring but most of all it’s loaded with humour and lots of fun. For life is a journey refined by the techniques of yoga and to be laughed at along the way. Allow your intelligence to be stimulated and your pelvis to wake up.

WORKSHOP 2: Five–days (Teachers) Intensive
Mo, 20 – Fr, 24 April 2009
Gain a deeper understanding of yoga to enhance your practice and skills of teaching. Theoretical explanation based upon direct experience can stimulate your intellect and cause you to reflect deeper on your practice. The outcome is greater understanding and a stronger connection to your self through your own practice.
Please note that you don't need to have the ambition to teach yoga to benefit from the 5-days intensive! It serves to deepen and ground the student.
This week workshop will highlight:
- Asana: the key principles of asana, the integrity of posture, which serve as the base for further practice of pranayama and meditation. Your questions on postures from any of the series are welcome for exploration.
- Pranyama: full practice of pranayama and theoretical explanation of the techniques and their benefits. In addition each student’s pranic pulse shall be read over a number of days to determine where they are at and their personal pranayama prescribed to them at the end of the program. Paul has apprenticed with Tiwariji and this lineage of masters in pranayama where traditional teaching has always included pulse analysis to work specifically with a student.
- Philosophy: Hatha (Yoga) Pradipika will be our main focus but reference to the other texts and the classical Patanjali Yoga Sutras will also be included. The hatha texts contain many of the keys to better understand and perform practice of asana and pranayama. Insight in to where this grows to in terms of meditation will be given.
Monday to Friday, 20-24 April 2009
07:30 - 09:00 Pranayama practice (with pulse analysis)
09:00 - 11:00 Asana practice, alternating between mysore style and explorative led
11:30 - 13:00 asana and pranayama practical
14:30 - 16:00 Philosophy
16:00 - 16:30 Pranayama practice
Please note, we will finish at 12:00 on Friday 24 April (i.e. only a very short break after practice and one seminar) as Paul has to catch a plane.
Subject to alterations. Depending on the number of participants minor changes to the schedule are possible. A detailed time table will be published shortly before the workshop.
